About this performance
We had so much fun preparing and presenting this wacky show. Lloyd and Croft were such brilliant comedy writers with Are You Being Served? also to their names and for Croft also Dad’s Army, Hi-de-Hi and It Ain’t Half Hot Mum.
Together they devised the show concept as a parody of the BBC wartime drama Secret Army, and for those of you who might not know much about the BBC nine series show, it gives the opportunity to play; the lead, Cafe owner René, his tone deaf wife (who performs cabaret!), inept German Officers, the Gestapo officer who has ‘a thing’ for his female adjutant, two full blooded female waitresses, the forger, the female head of the resistance, the undercover policeman, an Italian officer, and British Airmen all played with over the top accents! In all, a large cast of eighteen (6F, 12M) and a few additional small character parts including, a pianist, german soldiers and ‘peasants’.
